Two words, one full sentence.
A stand-alone mantra. ('So-Hum', a powerful yogic mantra, means 'I Am').
The powerful beginning to your next life-changing affirmation.
While Mantras and Affirmations have vastly different origins, they are both essentially powerful ways to positively influence our own emotions and behavior. How and when they are used depends on the users comfort level and desired outcome.
A Mantra is a powerful ancient method for clearing the mind, finding inner peace and connecting with the Divine.
Positive affirmations, on the other hand, are a relatively 'new' development. Merging modern psychotherapy and linguistics, affirmations have became a way to consciously rewire thought patterns in order to actively create positive outcomes.
Merging both, we can understand how we can create simple but intensely meaningful affirmations that may also be considered personal mantras. A short phrase we can repeat and use as a touchstone to help us overcome repetitive negative thoughts, fears, beliefs or negative memories.
Personally, I have come to use 'I Am' as an affirmation of my own self-worth ("I Am because I Am"), a stand-alone mantra, AND the beginning of powerful affirmations for self-development.
Using just these two words, we can find and reconnect with the source of our power, our confidence and our worth.
These two words together reflect one massive but simple truth: I Am Worthy (or "I Am Enough" depending on your preference).
(If in doubt, try to think of any small child that isn't "worthy" for any reason other than the fact that they exist. Can you think of one? Of course not. Because children do not need to do, think, feel, act or prove their worth in any way. These insecurities are creations of our belief systems and our background and/or our experiences. They are not 'real'. So that's settled it then: YOU are worthy, too).
I'm a big fan of simplicity. Boil it all down to some simple truths, and the rest is simply our fears and old dysfunctional programming at play.
Which is where Positive Affirmations come in.
Affirmations are usually short, complete sentences that reflect something we wish to have or be as if we already have it in the present moment.
I love to start my affirmations with "I Am...." Because it is like a double-shot of awesome. A powerful incantation, a belief in my own existence and worth. Followed by the desired feeling or state as if it already exists.
I Am... grateful.
I Am... infinitely blessed.
I Am... worthy of love.
I Am... abundant.
I Am... safe in my body today.
I Am... free to choose.
I Am... beginning a new journey of self-discovery.
I Am... able to speak my truth.
There is no limit to the affirmations that can be created from 'I Am.' But it doesn't mean that it is always EASY to create the perfect affirmation for yourself. Sometimes we are too confused, too overwhelmed, to know what affirmation we need to create more positivity in our lives.
Here's a QUICK SOLUTION:
Lets look quickly at our three primary instincts - the things us humans are hard-wired to seek out and need (in order of importance):
1. Safety (emotional and physical)
2. Love (give and receive)
3. Livelihood (prosperity and abundance)
Now, think about the type of 'issue' that seems to take up most space in your life (your thoughts, your feelings, your time). Is it related to feeling unsafe (especially if you are actually 'safe' but you keep reliving some past hurt or trauma)? Is it relating to feeling unloved, or grieving a love relationship? Or perhaps it is a constant focus on money and monetary stability?
<< Please note: often when we are over-focused on money issues, we need to look a little deeper at the 'root' of these money issues: remember, safety and attachment come first in terms of needs... but it can often show up in our adult life as money 'issues' >>
We can get caught up chasing something we want, while our actual NEEDS are going unfulfilled. Which basically leaves us feeling all out of alignment and stressed out.
So what can we do? Well, we can find all of the answers in our fears. Yikes.
If you're confused about where to start, then pick your current 'biggest fear', and create your most positive life affirmation in mere moments. You can do it in two easy steps.
STOP IDENTIFYING YOURSELF in terms of what you lack or desire less of (E.g. "I am a loser" "I am afraid" "I am terrible at relationships" "I am always broke").
START IDENTIFYING YOURSELF as what you want to create more of in yourself. Start to identify as the end-result feelings, beliefs and wants that you desire.
"I am scared to love anybody ever again - I don't think I could handle the heartache"
"I Am... worthy of a loving, trusting relationship."
And then using this affirmation whenever self-doubt and FEAR creeps in - repeating as often as necessary - to override the negative programming.
Yes, you can create a new reality for yourself.
You are now in control of your beliefs, desires, wants and dreams.
These two little words << 'I Am' >> help us strengthen our connection with our SELF, as well as our Spirituality.
I believe in 'I Am'.
Because I Am.
I believe it's a full sentence.
A complete truth.
I believe this enough for both of us - I'll hold this intention for you until you can believe it, too.
